Biography
Al Thornton was born on December 7, 1983 in Perry , Georgia to the parents of Alford and Philomenia Thornton. Al graduated from Perry High School in 2002 averaging 27.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 blocked shots and 2.0 steals in his senior year. Al holds the all time scoring record at his high school with over 1,500 career points. He was named Most Valuable Player at the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star game and the Georgia/Tennessee All-Star game after his senior season.
Al Thornton went on to continue his basketball career at Florida State in the year of 2003. He was ranked in the top 25 of ACC freshman in various statistical categories. Al earned All-ACC Second-Team and All-District First-Team honors in his junior year at Florida State leading his team with 16.1 points per a game. During his senior year, Al started in 35 games averaging 19.7 points and 7.2 rebounds a game. He continued to receive more awards including All-America Third-Team honors, All-ACC First-Team honors, All-District Six First-Team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and was named the ACC Player of the Year runner-up. On June 28, 2007 Al Thornton was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers as the 14th overall pick. He was named 2008 NBA All-Rookie First Team, along with holding the Clippers rookie record of 39 points in a game.
In February 2010, Al Thornton was traded to the Washington Wizards.
