Biography

James C. Gist III was born to Linda and James Gist, Jr on October 26th, 1986. 
 
He was the Team Captain and starting Power Forward for Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Maryland.  While in his senior year, he averaged 19.5 points per game to go along with his 10.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game.  He also earned third team All-Met honors by the Washington Post, and was the school's all-time leading shot blocker amassing over 300 throughout his career.   
 
Following an impressive high school career, Gist continued his success at Maryland.  As a Freshman in 2004-2005 he saw action in 31 of 32 games, averaging 6.2 points per game and leading the team in field goal percentage (.493).  He continued to improve and as a Junior earned honorable mention All-ACC and averaged 12.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. 
 
Gist's interests include movies, playing the piano, and traveling.  In addition he is a community service activist, performing volunteer work at soup kitchens and working for the Special Olympics.
 

He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2008 NBA Draft.
