Biography
Austin Daye was born in Irvine, California on June 5, 1988. Daye attended Woodbridge High in Irvine, California, where as a junior he was named to the first-team All State and was an All-Orange County third team pick ranked nationally as the 32nd best player in the 2007 recruiting class and as the ninth best small forward by one recruiting service.
He was named to the Orange County Register first team after leading Orange County in scoring at 30.9 ppg as a senior. Daye grabbed 12.4 rpg and averaged 5.4 blocks/game and was also named Sea View League Player of the Year, CIF-Southern Section Division I Player of the Year and calhisports.com
Daye led the University of Gonzaga to the Sweet 16 during the 2008-09 NCAA Tournament. During that 2008-2009 season, averaging 12.7 points per game, 6.8 rebounds, and 2 blocks, Daye was given honorable mention as an All-WCC team candidate. He was also named to the 2008 WCC All-Freshman Team.
After completing two successful seasons at Gonzaga, Daye made himself eligible for the 2009 NBA Draft. He was chosen 15th overall by the Detroit Pistons, following the footsteps of his father, who was selected by the Washington Bullets in the 1983 NBA Draft.
