Biography

Tayshaun Prince was born February 28, 1980 in Compton, California.  His parents are Thomas and Diane Prince.

The 1998 McDonald’s All-American led Dominguez High School to a 96-9 record during his three seasons, including a state championship during his junior year of 1997. Tayshaun Prince played four seasons (1998 - 2002) for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, averaging 13.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as the Wildcats posted a 97-39 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament each year. Prince won SEC Player of the Year in his junior season (2000-2001) also leading the SEC in free throw percentage (84.3%) and was named to the Associated Press All-SEC Teams in both his junior and senior years.  Kentucky won the SEC Tournament in 1999 and 2001, and Prince was awarded the 2001 tournament's Most Valuable Player award.
 
In June 2002 the Detroit Pistons selected Tayshaun as the 23rd pick in the first round of the NBA Draft.  Prince has played in every single game for the Pistons the past four seasons, becoming a fixture in the starting line-up. Prince is a skillful all-around player and is considered a star at his position. He combines a solid outside shot with the ability to drive to the basket, aided by his quick feet and impressive leaping ability, which has made him a formidable shot blocker and excellent defender. Tayshaun was named to the All-NBA Defensive Second Team two consecutive seasons in 04-05 and 05-06. Prince helped the Detroit Pistons win the NBA Championship in 2004, along with winning a Gold Medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
