Biography

Born July 8, 1982 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Hakim is the son of Kenneth Nichols and Queen Warrick. Hakim attended Syracuse University where he majored in retail management and consumer studies and finished his degree in only three and a half years. While at Syracuse, Hakim won the Big East Men's Basketball Player of the Year award his senior year, as well as Most Improved Player his sophomore. During Warrick's 4 years at Syracuse, he averaged 15.4 points and 7.6 rebounds. At the point of his departure, he was ranked 4th all time in Syracuse scoring and rebounding. In 2003 he won a NCAA National Championship, along with being named All-American in 2005.

In 2005, Hakim was drafted 19th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies. On July 31, 2006, Warrick was named to be one of the contestants in the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest during the All-Star Weekend. Warrick has averaged 10.2 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game during his career in the NBA and has become a solid contributor on the court as well as a positive influence and a great role model off the court.

Hakim has a strong presence in the community and enjoys helping others. He has participated in the Lift Up America Food Drive last season where he helped distribute food to area non-profit organizations around Thanksgiving, as well as made numerous appearances at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Grizzlies Academy in his first season in Memphis. Hakim also participates in the Grizzlies’ Tickets For Kids program with Hakim’s Hang Out, and regularly participates in Grizzlies reading programs for children.

In July 2010, Hakim signed with the Phoenix Suns.
