Biography
Jawad Williams was born February 19, 1983, to mother Gail, who also played basketball in college, at Cleveland State. He attended St. Edwards High School in Lakewood, Ohio where he led Lakewood to the state championship in 1998. He received the Associated Press and Gatorade Player of the Year honors in Ohio along with being named an Associated Press all-state selection for Ohio. He averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots per game as a senior.
Attending North Carolina State, Jawad played more minutes of college basketball than any returning player on the team and is the second-leading scorer among all active Tar Heels. He averaged 12.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game along with shooting 46.7 percent from the floor, 33.6 percent from three-point range and 69.6 percent from the free throw line. Ranks eighth all-time at Carolina with 1,628 career points. Also finished with 614 rebounds and 192 assists.
As a senior (2004-05), Williams was named All-ACC Third Team selection where he averaged 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the NCAA Final Four, including three three-pointers vs. Illinois in the final, to help UNC claim the 2005 NCAA title.
Williams signed as a free agent on April 9, 2009 with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is a fluid athlete with decent package of all-around skills. He can face the basket or shoot turnarounds from the post which makes him a versatile athlete along with giving great effort defensively.
